Life Story for Elsie Quevedo (Arellano)

Elsie Quevedo (Nee Arellano) affectionately known by the family as “La Flaca,” was born to Rafael and Verónica Arellano on December, 4th 1986 in Chicago, IL. Elsie has 3 siblings, Benjamin, Rafael Jr., and her twin sister Grizel (La Gorda). Elsie attended Whitter and Shields Elementary.
In 2005, she graduated from Thomas Kelly High School, where she participated in choir and played the clarinet. During her high-school years of 2003-2005 she was also involved in CPFTA (Chicago Police Fire Fighter Training Academy)
Elsie then completed her Associate’s degree in Science in 2007, where she started working in the medical field at several local clinics. In the same year, she started her career as a phlebotomist for Life Source Blood Services. It was truly a joy for her to give the “Gift of Life”. Three years later, a terrible diagnosis of brain cancer was given, which Elsie overcame several times over the years.
During her time at Life Source, she met her soulmate Carlos Quevedo whom she married in 2010. A year later in 2011, their love was overjoyed by the birth of their son Carlitos. “La Flaca” was a loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt (Nana) and friend. Most importantly, Elsie was an extraordinary mommy for Carlitos, Elsie would take him to school every day, attended field trips, movies, took him to the library and soccer games. Nothing fulfilled her heart more than to see her son smile and seeing him happy.
Elsie will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to meet her and love her, especially her son and husband.
